Bernard Somers in a PhD student of Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Rutgers University.  He aims to uncover novel natural products with extraordinary medicinal activity from exotic sources.  Somers earned his BS of Neuroscience with minors in biochemistry and entrepreneurship from the University of Scranton in 2011.  He currently works with various autotrophs, particularly African Indigenous Vegetables (AIVs), to quantify micro-nutrients, perform bioactivity assays, and investigate bioactive phytochemicals via analytical equipment such as LC/MS, GC/MS, NMR, and more.
